Roland Double Beat fuzz section

The Roland AD-50 Double Beat is originally a combined fuzz/wah. I drew up this layout for the fuzz section and it sounds amazing! I've been building alot of fuzzes and this one is top 5 for sure.
A forum member on the tagboardeffects forum "Neil McNasty" made a heavy modded version of the AD-50 fuzz that he call "the Huzzle and Cuzz Fuzz". It seems to be really cool! Check it out here.

Hey there! Cool compact vero layout for this pedal. How difficult would it be to adapt it to BCE transistor pinouts? I'm looking to build a Double Beat using 2SC1815-GR's, which are BCE, not CBE like the 2N2222A's. Thanks for any reply!

Hi Matt,

If I were you I would just use this layout and twist the transistor legs with some short pieces of shrinkwrap on the legs to avoid shorting them.

If you don't want to do that, you can always ask in the tagboardeffects forum and I'm sure someone would gladely draw up a new layout for you. :)

cheers
/ Fredrik

Also, did you have to be selective about the hFE gains of the individual transistors like you do in a Fuzz Face or Tonebender type build? Did you pay special attention to the transistor bias, or just go based on the original schematic values? Is this circuit not really picky about the hFE and bias values of the transistors?

Hi Matt,
No. I just dropped in a bunch of random 2N2222A's and it sounded great. I've also read buildreports of other people saying the same thing, so I wouldn't worry about transistor gains in this case. However, it could not hurt trying a few different combinations with different HFE if you have the time. :)
