Eagle Claw Octave Fuzz

Here is a new original design - The Eagle Claw octave fuzz

It's a very simple CMOS based circuit with a full wave rectifier for the octave up. Makes a fairly strong octave, but usual caveats apply for best results - humbuckers, neck pickup and tone rolled off.

For fun I threw together a short demo song for this one insted of a regular soundclip. This it how it sounds in context with drums and bass (I mixed the bass low). It has some minor eq for touch-up.
My completed pedal. It turned out ok, but the etch could have been alittle better. My toner is running out so the transfer wasn't that good to start with.
For this build I used a prototype dual layer PCB from OSH Park. PCB's will be avaliable for purchase when I get my webshop up and running. The last image shows the microphone placement in the demo. I only used one microphone on the drums. Why make it more complicated then it has to be? :)

The name is after the kung fu style. Here is one of my favourite movies that features the eagle claw style.
PCB avaliable in the shop

Hi
Can you (will you) build me one of the Eagle Claw Octave Fuzz pedals like the prototype in the demo above?...I think it really sounds great! and I'd like to have one (but I am not a builder).
I am in the US at zip code 85743 (Tucson, Arizona).
Thank you, Nick B.

Hi Nicholas,
I don't take custom orders for pedals. Sorry. You will have to ask someone else to build one for you, or you can get the complete kit from Musikding.de It's a very simple build. Cheers / Fredrik

Is this circuit varified? Im 100% sure ive built it correctly and have no solder bridges. Only other thing i can think of is that my CD4069’s are bad. When i touch the end of the IC, it seems to slowly get louder and work correctly until i take my finger away. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Patrick,

Yes, it's verified. Sounds like you may have a cold solderjoint. Try reflowing the solder on the IC socket.

Hi,

will this cicuit invert the phase of the signal? I want to use a blender with this so I'd like to know in advance if I need a phase inverting circuit for the blender.

Thanks!

Hi Greg,

Yes, it does invert the signal.
Best regards / Fredrik

Another great circuit! Very nice, thanks Fredrick.

A super simple Mod option if anyone wants to be able to make this super 8-bitty, add a passive volume pot to the input. 100K pot sould do fine, 1>ground, 2>board input, 3>jack/guitar input. This makes it real gated and synthy sounding. (Or just roll your guitars volume down for the same effect.
